Burnt
Store Presbyterian Church has a keen sense of mission. We
are firmly committed to reaching out to the community and
to the world in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The Mission Ministry of our Session advises how we allocate our benevolence dollars. Although our total mission budget amount is determined at the beginning of the year, the committee meets monthly throughout the year to consider requests for funds from the more than two dozen organizations that we support locally and abroad. In addition to monetary support to helping organizations in our local community, around the nation and globally, our ministry is committed to providing people in a variety of hands-on projects such as the home we built in 2000 for Habitat for Humanity.
We are excited about something new coming to our church in November 2008. We will partner with Angel Food Ministries to become a host site. Simply put, Angel Food Ministries provides food at amazingly low cost to clients in a community. Every final Saturday in each month clients come to our church to pick up the food order they placed the prior month. Since this is such a significant undertaking for our church and since the program lends itself to several details, we are posting a page devoted to our involvement in Angel Food Ministries. Visit that page clicking this link.
At our church we believe we can't ask members to tithe without being an example of such giving. To that end, we make certain that our discretionary giving is at or above the level of the tithe ... not counting special seasonal offerings or events. In 1983, when our church was organized, it adopted as its motto: Burnt Store Presbyterian Church ... a church reaching up and reaching out. Those words inform our newly adopted defining vision statement ... reaching up (in worship, prayer and adoration), making disciples (as we know, love and follow Jesus) and changing lives (as God directs our witness and our work).
