Traditional music at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church encompasses several musical groups.

The “Praise Chorale” is our robed choir, which sings at the first and third services every week (except for summers). Music for this group is generally accompanied by piano or organ, and once monthly by a small wind ensemble. Singing a wide variety of music, there is something for everyone. Singers range from those who love to sing God’s praise but have no formal training to those who have been in professional music careers as teachers and church musicians. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 5-6:30 weekly, and the group goes out to dinner once a month following rehearsal for fellowship together. Attention is paid not only to singing the notes on a page, but also to musical concepts and especially the spiritual content -- the reason we sing! ALL are welcome to be a part of this fine group of singers!

The “Praise Bells” are a group of fine handbell musicians who play on our church’s 5 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and 3 octaves of Malmark handchimes. Practicing weekly from 3:30-5 on Thursdays, membership is open to those who have played handbells in the past and/or can read music well. The group now plays Levels 2+ to 4- music. Performances outside of the church include ringing for the Salvation Army bell-bucket at Christmastime, visits to area senior housing complexes, and playing when requested for other group meetings. Several of the members also attend regional and state ringing events each year. Small ensembles also perform as an offshoot of this group.

“Sanctus Singers” is a new group to our church’s traditional music offerings. This is an auditioned group of singers who want to go a step beyond in the level of difficulty in their music. More of a chamber group, they perform approximately monthly in worship, and also in the twice yearly major concert/worship performances, and sing a variety of styles of music. This group has required practice each Sunday immediately following the first worship service.

During the summer, the Praise Chorale meets bi-weekly before worship to sing that day in worship. The Bells summer ensembles also play when ready. On the weeks in between, vocal and instrumental solos and small ensembles raise their music in praise - hammered dulcimer, banjos, piano, guitars - there’s a great
